Get out and get active to celebrate National Health and Fitness Day on Saturday, June 6th at your local MOVATI Athletic club.
National Health and Fitness Day is a celebration of the power of movement and the positive impact that physical activity has on our health, well-being, and communities. Observed across Canada, this day encourages people of all ages and fitness levels to make movement a priority, whether that means taking a walk around the neighbourhood, joining a group fitness class, strength training at the gym, or simply trying something new.
The day serves as an important reminder that living a healthy lifestyle does not require perfection. Every workout, every stretch, every step, and every healthy choice contributes to building a stronger body, improving mental well-being, and creating healthier communities. Regular physical activity supports heart health, improves strength and mobility, boosts energy levels, reduces stress, and enhances overall quality of life. National Health and Fitness Day is an opportunity to celebrate these benefits while inspiring more Canadians to discover activities they genuinely enjoy.
At MOVATI Athletic, we believe fitness is for everyone. Whether you’re taking your very first workout, returning to exercise after time away, or working toward a new personal best, you’ll find the support, encouragement, and expert guidance you need to succeed. Our welcoming community, diverse group fitness classes, state-of-the-art equipment, personal training services, and recovery amenities are designed to help members feel confident at every stage of their fitness journey.
One of the greatest benefits of joining a fitness community is having people who motivate and inspire you. Exercising alongside others creates accountability, builds confidence, and makes staying active more enjoyable. National Health and Fitness Day is the perfect opportunity to challenge yourself, invite a friend or family member to join you, and experience the positive energy that comes from moving together.
Take Newton’s Full Body Fitness Circuit Challenge
This National Health and Fitness Day, Newton from our MOVATI Athletic Nepean Ottawa club is challenging you to get moving with a simple but effective Full Body Fitness Circuit. Designed to strengthen your body from head to toe, this workout combines core stability, upper-body strength, and lower-body power into one efficient circuit that can be completed in less than 30 minutes.
The challenge is simple:
- Perform each exercise for one minute.
- Rest for 30 seconds between exercises.
- Complete three full rounds.
Whether you’re just beginning your fitness journey or looking to add another workout to your routine, this circuit is designed to help you move with confidence while celebrating National Health and Fitness Day.

Watch Newton demonstrate each exercise before giving the circuit a try. Follow along at your own pace, focus on maintaining proper form, and don’t forget to challenge your friends and family to join you.
Exercise Breakdown
Plank
The circuit begins with a plank to activate your core and prepare your body for the exercises ahead.
Newton recommends keeping your elbows tucked in, tailbone slightly tucked, and rib cage depressed to maintain a neutral spine throughout the movement. Rather than simply holding the position, actively engage your abdominal muscles, shoulders, and glutes while keeping your body in one straight line from head to heels.
Benefits of the plank:
- Strengthens your core, shoulders, and back.
- Improves posture and spinal stability.
- Develops the foundation for stronger, safer movement during other exercises.
Push-Ups
After completing the plank, move into push-ups.
Newton demonstrates two variations so everyone can participate. If you’re comfortable performing a traditional push-up from your toes, that’s a great option. If you’re newer to the movement or building strength, you can perform the exercise from your knees while maintaining the same technique.
Just as with the plank, focus on keeping your rib cage down, your back flat, and your body aligned throughout every repetition.
Benefits of push-ups:
- Builds strength in the chest, shoulders, and triceps.
- Engages the core to improve overall stability.
- Increases upper-body muscular endurance.
Reverse Lunges
The final movement is the reverse lunge using a dumbbell in each hand.
Take a large step backward, lower your back knee toward the floor with control, then return to the starting position before alternating legs. Moving deliberately throughout each repetition helps improve balance while strengthening the muscles that support everyday movement.
Benefits of reverse lunges:
- Strengthens the quadriceps, hamstrings, and glutes.
- Improves balance, coordination, and single-leg stability.
- Develops functional lower-body strength for daily activities and sports.
Why This Circuit Works
Although the workout includes just three exercises, each movement complements the others to create a balanced, full-body routine.
The plank establishes core stability and proper body alignment. Push-ups build upper-body strength while reinforcing those same positioning cues. Reverse lunges finish the circuit by developing lower-body strength, balance, and coordination.
Performing each exercise for one minute with short recovery periods challenges muscular endurance while keeping your body continuously engaged. Completing three rounds provides an efficient workout that strengthens multiple muscle groups while improving overall fitness.
The circuit is also highly adaptable. Beginners can modify movements, reduce their pace, or use lighter weights, while more experienced participants can increase the challenge by using heavier dumbbells, slowing each repetition for greater control, or minimizing rest between rounds.
